Why a roofing license is the gutter license
In Arizona, roofing is a licensed trade and gutters are part of it. The Registrar of Contractors issues CR-42 Roofing only to contractors who carry the required bond and insurance and have passed the state trade and business exams. The classification is the one Arizona applies to roof systems and to the flashings, edge metal, scuppers and drainage that make them watertight, which is where gutters sit.
That last part is the point for a gutter company. A gutter is the bottom of a drainage chain that starts at the ridge. When a monsoon overflow is really a slipped tile, a failed drip edge or a clogged scupper, a CR-42 licensed crew can correct the roof-edge cause. An unlicensed crew that only hangs troughs cannot.
